August is a month of premieres for Samsung and for now, we have presented the Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 and a new watch for the most sporty users, the Samsung Galaxy Watch Active2. And for this reason, it is not too much that we put it from you to you in front of others in the market in a comparison of smartwatches.
With more and more RAM and more battery backup, the smartwatch showcase is very varied, especially in aesthetics and price. Some more elegant, others closer to a quantifying bracelet, the assortment you receive to Samsung’s new smartwatch is really varied.
Health and sports activities Tracking by Apple Watch Series 4 and Galaxy Watch Active2
The Samsung smartwatch has been updated especially at the level of the health monitoring functions that these clocks can make or approximate as much as possible. Thus, as we saw in the Apple Watch Series 4 last year it also presents the performance of electrocardiograms. It does so by means of electrical pulses so that it is able to approximate the detection of possible arrhythmias, always saving the distances of a professional medical team (and pending approval in each country).
This characteristic differentiates these two smartwatches from the rest, although as we have qualified we will have to see in which countries it is available. The rest is based on the detection of pulsations thanks to the integrated pulsometers, being a passive function or making specific measurements at the user’s discretion.
Other new functions of this smartwatch are automatic fall detection, whereby in theory Active2 is able to detect when a person has fallen by accident and, if necessary, call emergencies. There are also new types of training, seven of which the watch is able to detect automatically.
There it can be more competitive for those users looking for a smartwatch that is capable of monitoring a wide range of activities. The previous Watch Active already had a quite varied assortment, so with this, they complete it a little more being thus one of the most variety offered along with other proposals such as Garmin Fenix 5 Plus or Apple Watch Series 4, capable of registering activities like boxing or yoga.
Inches, weight, and Battery Capacity Comparison
The screen of the new Galaxy Watch Active2 is a little larger than that of its predecessor, with now two models available of 1.2 and 1.4 inches, but maintaining resolution. In this aspect, it is precisely below other smartwatches such as the Huawei Watch GT Active or the Honor Watch Magic, but they continue to bet on the AMOLED that usually gives a very good experience when the sun’s rays are more, unlike other panels.
At the moment the brand has not released the exact measurements and has not yet reached our hands to prove it (hopefully it does), but since the smaller screen is already a little bigger and so is the battery as It is likely to be larger than the first Active. The weight depends on the model, ranging from 26 to 44 grams, but in this aspect there is a lot of variability between the existing models, seeing examples such as the Active Watch and its 25 grams or the bulky Garmin Fenix 5 Plus and LG Watch W7, with 86 and 79.5 grams respectively.
In fact, the battery is part of one of the main hardware-level updates with respect to the previous model. The Active2 includes a 247 or 240 mAh battery depending on the model, which is in both cases higher than 178 mAh (and although there is more to take into account for the average backup this is a good indicative), so it may be that average of 36-48 hours is increased.
What will be difficult is to beat who may be the champion in this regard. Both the GT Active and the Huawei Watch GT gave us very good battery backup in the analyzes that we performed is the battery of the first 420 mAh, and in the absence of testing the Amazfit GTR, its 410 mAh battery also looks good (24 days according to the manufacturer ).
In the end, it depends on what we care to charge the device over the course of days. Obviously, it is always more comfortable that there is a prolonged battery and that we have to charge it every five or more days, but there are users who give less importance to this and who are content to hold a day as sometimes happens with mobile phones. In any case, if progress is achieved in this regard and achieve more durable batteries in more contained sizes, it will always be positive.
Speaking of the other components, the Samsung Galaxy Watch Active2 maintains the Exynos 9110 but depending on the model we can have up to 1.5 GB of RAM (the model with LTE). It has 4 GB of storage, a relatively common memory that is below those we see in the Apple Watch or the Garmin Fenix.
Touch screens, pressure Comparison of these SmartWatches
In terms of handling, the Active2 has recovered the rotating bezel but in a different way than we saw previously in watches of the brand. Now it is a touch bezel that allows you to navigate with touches as if it were a physical sphere, called Touch Bezel.
It is another feature that differentiates it from other watches that are operated with the touch screen and/or buttons, such as Huawei. For its part, Apple is still betting on 3D Touch in combination with a side crown.
We will have to see if the correct touch sensitivity of the screen is maintained and if this bezel works as promised. It is important that these clocks have intuitive navigation and that the software provides quick access or commands so that we can perform active monitoring in a practical and fast way, but it is also very important that they are not demanding in the handling and activation of the screen especially when consulting it during the exercise.
Prices Comparison Samsung Galaxy Watch Active2 vs Apple Watch Series 4
We do not know the price and availability of the Samsung Galaxy Watch Active2 for beyond the United States, the price for this market is $ 279.99 for the basic model of 40 millimeters of aluminum and without LTE ($ 20 more for the 44 millimeters), so it is expected that in euros it will be around 250 euros (perhaps lowering the current price of the first Active).
It would, therefore, remain in the previous range, without apparently experiencing much change or jumping to higher borders such as the Apple Watch Series 4 or the Garmin Fenix 5 Plus. It does not seem that he will enter the most economical watch competition where the Amazfit or other cheaper smartwatches like the Honor Magic Watch or the Fitbit Versa compete.
